Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello on Friday was allegedly stoned by some residents in the state while emerging from a mosque where he had observed the Jumat prayer in Lokoja.
According to Premium Times, the incident occurred at the Lokoja Central Mosque in the old market area of the capital.
The aggrieved residents were reportedly carrying placards and allegedly stoned the governor with rotten fruits and vegetables.
A source said the police dispersed the crowd with teargas soon afterwards.
“The situation in this state is even worse than what the residents are doing. The situation is pathetic,” the source said.
An official in the state told Premium Times that the governor had earlier been stoned recently.
“He recently attended an event in Ankpa, and residents there defied heavy security to stone him.”
“We don’t understand what’s going on,” the official said.
