Court to deliver judgement on Apo 6 killings on Thursday

Danjuma

Justice Ishaq Bello of the FCT High Court, Abuja, is scheduled to deliver judgement on the Apo Six Killings on Thursday.

The court was supposed to deliver the judgement on February 13, but the presiding judge extended the judgment to a latter date.

Officers of the Nigerian Police had allegedly killed five young auto-spare parts dealers and a young woman in Apo, a satellite town in Abuja in 2005.

The victims, Ekene Isaac Mgbe, Ifeanyi Ozor, Chinedu Meniru, Paulinus Ogbonna, Anthony and Augustina Arebu, were said to be returning from a night club when they were stopped at a police checkpoint.

According to the Police, the victims were armed robbers who opened fire on policemen at the checkpoint.

However, a judicial panel of inquiry set up by former President Olusegun Obasanjo recommended the trial of the five officers, stating that their story was force.
