Jonathan’s cousin, wife to pay N500m for freedom

Robert Azibaola, the cousin of former President Goodluck Jonathan, was on Wednesday, granted bail of N500 million by a federal high court sitting in Abuja.

Azibaola, who was granted bail alongside his wife and their company, is facing a six-count charge of fraud and money laundering for his involvement in a $40 million contract allegedly gotten from embattled former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki.

The court had on Tuesday remanded Azibaola in Kuje prison, but was granted bail on Tuesday.

The accused persons are to provide two sureties in like sum. The sureties must own a landed property in the Maitama and Asokoro districts of Abuja.

The court in its decision also ruled that the sureties must provide proof that they have paid tax for the last three years. The accused will be remanded in prison until the bail conditions are fulfilled.
