Dancer falls into bonfire while trying to dance the ‘Harlem Shake’ (PHOTOS)

The Harlem Shake is a harmless humorous dance –  unless you perform it next to a bonfire.

A man in Germany had to be saved after his attempts to do the viral dance craze went drastically wrong.

The 30-second clip posted on the internet shows four friends in the dark in front of a raging bonfire.

One of them starts to dance and then the other three join in.

But the man at the back starts to dance a bit too enthusiastically and waves his hands in the air as he jumps.

He then seems to lose his footing on the edge of the bonfire and then falls straight back into the flames.

Two of the younger dancers quickly back away, but the nearest bravely reaches forward and pulls the hapless dancer out on to his knees before continuing to jump around.

The video was recorded in Germany where people traditionally light bonfires for Easter.

Surprisingly, according to the user that uploaded the video, the man walked away with only a couple of blisters.

The Harlem Shake is the viral dance craze of 2013 – to replace K-pop rapper Psy’s omnipresent Gangnam Style in 2012.

The concept is simple –  the videos are about 30 seconds long and set to Harlem Shake by New York DJ Baauer.

Each clip typically begins with one person – in this case the team manager – gently bopping alone for the first 15 seconds while everyone else in the room ignores them.

Then the bass line drops and everyone goes wild, doing crazy dance moves around the room.
