Dentaa Amoateng is invested in celebrating Ghanaian-based businesses in the UK

Award-winning Ghanaian-British entrepreneur, actress, TV presenter, singer, producer, Dentaa Amoateng is the founder of the annual Ghana UK Based Awards (GUBA) which took place this year on Saturday, June 3, 2017. The awards was established by Amoateng to celebrate, acknowledge, and support Ghanaian-based businesses and individuals in the UK.

Dentaa Amoateng was awarded an MBE in Queen Elizabeth II’s 2016 Birthday Honours and received the annual African Women in Europe (AWE) Award, for her work in promoting Ghanaian achievement in the UK. About her appointment from The Queen, Amoateng said, “This appointment has been humbling and I am grateful to the Queen and all who helped to make this possible. I have always been inspired by the tenacity of Africans in the UK and internationally, and I am more determined to continue working zealously to enhance our community.”

On her philanthropy work, GUBA has branches under the GUBA Enterprise including the GUBA Expo, GUBA Foundation and GUBA Careers with the GUBA Foundation working on incubators to fight infant mortality in Ghana. “Philanthropy to me is an expression of gratitude to life. We have been blessed with many physical and environmental gifts, so giving back to society is imperative. We all have a role to play in society and philanthropy to me, is one of the many ways to do so,” she was quoted as saying.

She moved to the UK from Ghana when she was five and has been deeply involved as an advocate for the Ghanaian community. Dentaa Amoateng studied Paediatric Nursing at Buckinghamshire New University and in 2005 released her Gospel Album, “Wu Ye Nyame.” Then she went on to build an acting career on British TV featuring in soap operas like EastEnders and Holby City, Judge John Deed, Run Baby Run, and Prime Suspect. She is more popular for presenting her hit TV programme, “The Dentaa Show” which saw her named as “Young Social Entrepreneur” of the year in The Future 100 Awards.
