‘It doesn’t make sense to zone chairmanship, Presidency to the North’ – Markafi

The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) National Caretaker Committee, Ahmed Markafi, on Friday, said that the forthcoming convention of the party will produce duly elected leaders and not anointed leaders.

Markafi stated this while inaugurating the 88-man committee on the zoning of the party’s position in Abuja.

He noted that it doesn’t make sense for all the party leadership positions to be zoned to the north, saying that all zones should have equal representation.

Markafi said, “It is not going to be anointing, it is going to be an election. So we are not printing only one form for each office. And the committee has seven days to submit its report.

“It doesn’t make sense at all for the chairmanship of the party and the Presidency is zoned to the North. In party politics all sections should have a fair representation. That was why the entire zoning arrangement was jettisoned”

He pointed out that the committee has quality members hence “Whatever decision you make will be widely accepted by all. I do not see you coming up with recommendation that would be quarried. Open the political landscape and not restricting the chairmanship of the party to one corner.”
