The Police Mobile Force (PMF) led by the Commander in charge of Ethics, Doctrine and Monitoring, Mr. Anietie Eyoh, yesterday arrested three errant policemen in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, and five in Calabar, Cross River State.
The policemen were arrested for mounting illegal roadblocks, improper dressing, and general violation of police ethics.
Two of the arrested policemen were picked up along Calabar-Itu Expressway for abandoning their duty post at the National Independent Power Plant and mounting an illegal roadblock on the expressway.
In an unrelated case, riot policemen were arrested at the Margaret Ekpo Airport, Calabar, for violating the rules guarding the escort of VIPs stipulating that the security personnel must not be less than two in number.
Two others were picked up for improper dressing at the MOPOL 11 Command, and another one in another part of Calabar.
While responding to the arrests, Mr. Mbu Mbu, the commissioner in charge of PMF, Force Headquarters, Abuja, said, “We have our departmental disciplinary procedure. The IG made a pronouncement that had to do with dress code, that they must be combat ready at all times. These are the things that we are now trying to enforce.”
“We have forwarded the signals to all field commanders and have given them enough time so that the men would conform to the directive,” he said.
He said the arrested officers will undergo an in-house trial and punished if found guilty.
