Forgery: Ekweremadu, Saraki, others have a date with the law tomorrow

Senate President Bukola Saraki and his Deputy, Ike Ekweremadu, will on Tuesday be arraigned before an Abuja Federal High Court in Jabi, to answer charges of forgery.

However, it is a double whammy for the Senate President as he’s also booked to appear before the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), Abuja, where he is facing accusations of false declaration of assets.

According to the Punch Newspapers, the Federal Ministry of Justice confirmed that both men will appear before Justice Yusuf Halilu on a two-count charge of forgery and criminal conspiracy.

A former Clerk to the National Assembly, Salisu Maikasu, and a former Deputy Clerk, Benedict Efeturi, will also be arraigned alongside Saraki and Ekweremadu.

The four accused persons are charged with the forgery of the Standing Rules that were used in their election as leaders of the Senate.

The offence is contrary to Section 97 (1) of the Penal Code Act and is punishable under Section 364 of the same law.
