Election fallout in Edo as SSG walks out of government

by Iyobosa Omorogie

Prof. Julius Ihonvbere has resigned his position as Secretary to the Edo State Government. His resignation comes following his defeat at the Edo North senatorial primary election which held on Monday. The ticket went to Francis Alimehena who defeated Ihonvbere by just 16 votes.

Ihonvbere who contested the election to fly the APC’s flag in the 2015 general elections, narrowly lost the election, with 815 votes to Alimehena, who polled 831.

The incumbent senator representing the district, Senator Domingo Obende, polled 198 votes. ‎

Governor Adams Oshiomhole’s spokesman, Peter Okhiria, confirmed Ihonvbere’s resignation, and said the governor has already accepted the resignation. He said the governor thanked Ihonvbere for his services to the government and the state and also wishes him well in his future endeavours.
