The House of Representatives committee on Ethics and Privileges has concluded its public hearing on the investigation on a lawmaker, Abdulmumin Jibrin.

Jibrin was being investigated for going against House rules and “inflicting damage on the National Assembly” with his budget padding allegations.

At the hearing on Monday, Jibrin had failed to appear before the committee and had earlier said he would only oblige the committee’s invite if the hearing is made public.

Chairman of the , Nicholas Ossai however said the committee has done all Jibrin demanded.

“He asked that we invite media, civil society organisations, student unions, members of the Nigerian Bar Association and some university lecturers, which we did from the first day,” Ossai said.

“We assured him that, as a member of this committee, he would be given fair hearing. The committee also went out of its way to make sure that this proceeding is made public. I think this committee has been seen to have observed the dictates of the Constitution on the matters of fair hearing,” Ossai further said.

The committee, during the hearing on Monday failed to reach Jibrin through phone calls or text messages.
