[The Film Blog] Watch David Oyelowo in the hilarious first trailer of action comedy “Gringo”

David Oyelowo

The first trailer for Nash Edgerton’s upcoming action comedy film Gringo is here, and it’s upbeat and hilariously chaotic. Titled then as American Express, Gringo joyrides across the border into Mexico, where all is not as it seems for decent-mannered businessman Harold Soyinka (David Oyelowo), who has a new wife and a stake in a pharmaceutical company. In Mexico, Harold is to hand-deliver a formula for a revolutionary new weed pill to a lab but, all too soon, he tangles with duplicitous business partners, Mexican drug lords, international mercenaries, and the DEA.

Oyelowo puts on a rich, comic persona which shimmers in several scenes in the trailer, and it will be his first time playing the role of Nigerian and we get to hear him throw in some convincing Yoruba. It is the Oyelowo you have never seen and we love it. Written by Anthony Tambakis and Matt Stone, Gringo already feels like one of those enjoyable, farcical comedies.

Check out the trailer for Gringo below. The film also stars Charlize Theron and Joel Edgerton, (Nash Edgerton’s brother), Amanda Seyfried, Thandie Newton, Yul Vazquez, and Sharlto Copley. The film is scheduled to be released by March 9, 2018, by Amazon Studios and STX Entertainment.
