The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Nasarawa state has announced the relocation of no fewer than 258 corps members from crisis areas in the state back to Lafia, the state capital.

The NYSC Coordinator in the state, Mrs Agatha Olabanji, said that the corps members were being accommodated at a safe location in Lafia, and stressed that the security situation in some parts of the state was volatile.

“They are no longer there. We have moved them out of crisis areas, they are about 258 corps members that have been moved back to Lafia,” she said.

The NYSC members were evacuated from Agyaragu-Tofa and Assakio communities in Lafia East Development Area and Daddere and Tudun-Adabu in Obi Local Government Area. These communities had recently experienced clashes between nomadic cattle rearers, and farmers.

After assuring that NYSC would not compromise their safety and well-being “for any reason”, Olabanji said that the relocated corps members had been asked to report regularly to the NYSC secretariat in Lafia, and explained that these measures were for the secretariat to be up to date with their welfare and safety.
