Goodbye Idol, Hello world! Contestant Tonii debuts with two singles

by Taiwo Damilola

It’s been only a few weeks since Oluwatoni Afolayan was evicted from the Nigerian Idol reality TV show; and already the Kwara state born singer is hard at work. Tonii, who put up some stellar performances during her time on Idol, has not rested on her laurels, but is making use of the platform to launch her career, with the recent release of two new singles. In recent times, she’s been rumoured to be signed with Audu Makori’s Chocolate City outfit.

Tonii delivers the goods on the soul track ‘Iwo ni ma Ba Lo’, a love song which she sings in Yoruba. On the track, Tonii strikes the listener as a young Angelique Kidjo. The singer also does a good job on ‘I rule’, the second single. The microbiology degree holder started singing at an early age and has since been trained by renowned musicians including Peter King, the legendary jazz artist and saxophonist, under whose tutelage she honed her vocal and piano skills.
