A mobile policeman was shot dead, while another sustained injuries during an attack on the residence of former Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Coomassie in Katsina state.

NAN reports that the incident happened around 8pm on Saturday.

The two attackers, who reportedly went there on a motorcycle, opened fire on the two policemen stationed at the gate of the residence.

Although they did not gain entrance into the house, the attackers were said to have escaped with the rifle of one of the policemen.

A neighbour said the former IGP and his family members were safe.

The corpse of the deceased policeman was deposited at the mortuary of Katsina General Hospital, where the other injured mobile policeman received treatment.
