Remember 2017’s Dognapped? It’s the movie in which comedian Julius Agwu lends his voice to play a dog named Bruno. First of its kind in Nollywood and directed by Kayode Kasum, who has a background in the production of short films and music videos.
Described as a “Love Letter to Lagos,” Kasum’s upcoming film Oga Bolaji is a story that follows the life of a 40-year-old musician (Gold Ikponmosa) whose simple and worry-free life alternates when his path crosses that of a young girl and an unfortunate event leads to the best part of his life or maybe not. First – why do synopses of some Nollywood films end with “unfortunate events”? Or is it just me?
The teaser for Oga Bolaji shows Gold Ikponmosa putting on headphones and smiling, with Wurld’s Show You Off playing in the background. What are we supposed to make of that? We are not teased by anything. Oga Bolaji also stars Omowunmi Dada, Gregory Ojefua, Idowu Philips, Jasmine Fakunle, Ronke Ojo, and Brutus Richard. No release date of the movie has been announced, but there’s still enough time for Kasum to release materials with the aim of stoking audience anticipation.
When Bernard Dayo isn’t writing about pop culture, he’s watching horror movies and reading comics and trying to pretend his addiction to Netflix isn’t a serious condition.
