UK Nigeria High Commission to refund £50 passport fee
Nigerians who paid £70 for the passport intervention in the United Kingdom will receive a £50 refund from the Nigerian High Commission, reducing the charge to the approved £20.
The commission announced the refund on Friday after public criticism forced it to lower the fee from £70. The £20 administrative charge was introduced during the late President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.
The commission had reportedly charged £70 without approval from the Foreign Affairs Ministry, while applicants with lost passports were asked to pay £150. The latest refund follows concerns over the additional charges and demands for greater transparency in passport services.
RwandAir fined ₦15m over passenger’s baggage complaint
RwandAir has been fined ₦15 million by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) for failing to resolve a passenger’s baggage complaint within the required timeframe.
NCAA spokesperson Michael Achimugu announced the sanction on Friday, saying the airline had breached consumer protection regulations. The authority also ordered RwandAir to replace the damaged bag and pay $170 in first-need compensation under Part 19 of the NCAA Regulations 2023.
The penalty follows the NCAA’s warning that airlines violating consumer protection rules would face sanctions. Last month, the authority penalised five airlines over similar breaches, reinforcing its efforts to protect passengers’ rights.
T-Pain sues Akon’s record label over $489,000 royalties
American singer T-Pain has sued Konvict Entertainment, founded by Akon, over alleged unpaid royalties worth $489,047.
Court documents filed on September 4 claim the label received $1.3 million from a distributor earlier this year but paid T-Pain only half of what he was owed. The Grammy winner also accused the company of breaching a settlement agreement from an earlier dispute.
T-Pain sued Konvict in 2018 over an unpaid advance for his album Oblivion. The case settled last year, but the singer now alleges the company violated the agreement’s terms.
BBNaija Aikou’s team warns Bells and Ricky over defamatory gay accusations
The management of BBNaija season 11 housemate Aikou has accused fellow housemates Bells and Ricky of repeatedly claiming he is gay, describing the remarks as defamation of character.
In a statement on X, the team said the pair had no evidence to support the allegation. It warned that repeatedly attaching personal labels to someone can cause serious harm and urged them to stop presenting assumptions as facts.
The statement added that Aikou’s friendships, letters, and expressions of affection do not determine his sexuality. His team urged both housemates to respect his boundaries and let him define himself.
Lady Gaga welcomes first child with Michael Polansky
Lady Gaga and her fiancé, Michael Polansky, have reportedly welcomed their first child together, according to Page Six and People. However, neither has confirmed the news, and details about the baby remain unknown.
