Picking up the latest copy of Style Mania, it is impossible not to be impressed – the duo of uber-stylist Dimeji Alara and uber-photographer Kelechi Amadi-Obi have fittingly delivered now three editions of what is clearly an uber-magazine.
The beauty of Mania lies in its unrelenting aspiration to international standards, an understanding of the balance that is required for the supposed superficiality of fashion and the depth of stories that make this irresistible whether you are fashion head or not.
Over a daring Modupe Ozolua cover, a buzz-creating Agbani Darego cover and a fierce, even cheeky, Funmi Iyanda cover, Mania has clearly established itself in terms of cutting edge and envelope -pushing content as the leading style authority in the magazine space.
The quality of storytelling, especially for its cover subjects, can tend to lag and bits of the sub-editing need to be given more than a second look, but put alongside the almost blindingly beautiful quality of photographer, design and the sheer breadth of content, that weakness pales into insignificance.
Mania’s future is bright – as bright (forgive me for being too cute) as Amadi Obi’s amazing photography!
