UPDATED: House of Reps in rowdy session over budget padding allegations

The House of Representatives on Wednesday witnessed a rowdy session over budget padding allegation made by the former Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations, Abbdulmumin Jibrin against Speaker Yakubu Dogara and three others.

The session went rowdy after the Chairman, House Committee on Rules and Business, Hon. Orker Jev reminded the Speaker and members of the House about the various allegations made by Jibrin while they were on recess.

“Mr. Speaker, you remember that for quite sometime, Hon. Jibrin Abdulmumin has been busy making spurious allegations against your person and certain members which in my considered opinion amounts to breach of House Rules,” Jev stated.

After his submission, the session went rowdy and the shouts of ‘Dogara’ rented the air.

The Speaker had to call for calm and then referred the matter to Committee on Ethics and Privileges.

Another member of the House, Aliyu Madaki said the motion was not seconded by another legislator, which makes it null and void.

He said there were calls for resignation of the Speaker over the allegations.

Dogara responded‎: “We all know who seconded the motion. The allegations were against the house; if I must resign, I will wait for you to tender in your resignation first.”

The response elicited more shouts and hailing of the Speaker.

  1. It should not be argued they should both resign
