Following immense criticism he got after the stunt he pulled at his concert, where he insisted that an handicapped person stand up during his concert, Kanye West has a few things to say about the incident and more.
During his concert in Sydney, Australia, on Friday, 12 September, Kanye said, “I can’t do this show until everybody stand up. Unless you got a handicap pass and you get special parking and s**t.”
He then sent security guard, Pascal Duvier to check whether the seated person was in fact in a wheelchair, and after it was discovered that the seated individual was handicapped, West proceeded with the show. Subsequently, he would be panned by critics for the pain and humiliation he might have caused the handicapped person.
During another show on Monday, 16 September, in Brisbane, he explained the situation with a personal rant-speech made to the audience, explaining that his action was misunderstood by critics.
He said, “What I want you to do is I want you to run the video everyone’s talkin’ about where I so-called screamed at somebody and everything. I want you to run that, right, since this is such big media-press-news and everything that obviously they trying to demonize me for. It’s like, ‘Welcome to today’s news, ladies and gentlemen.’ We’ve got Americans getting killed on TV, kids getting killed every weekend in Chicago, unarmed people getting killed by police officers.”
“At my concerts I make sure everybody has as good a time as possible. So all this demonising me, it ain’t gonna work after a while. Pick a new target. Pick a new target. Cos I’m not one of these dumb-a**e artists that you’re used to. You come to me, I’m gonna take my platform and I’m gonna break down this s**t down for real, intelligent people every night so they can understand,” he added.
Speaking further, West spewed a few rants about his wife and challenges that comes with building a family.
He said, “They’ve got this thing where they want the masses—people who’ve never heard my albums—to somehow read a headline that reads negative, and think that I’m a bad person or somethin’. I’m not judging them – I’m just telling you who I am. I’m a married Christian man. I’m not gonna make one of those Ben Affleck statements and s**t if that’s what you’re thinking.”
“I went from being a rock star across the globe to making the decision to pick one woman, raise a family. For anyone here that’s married, or in a relationship, knows that there’s enough things working against you. I’m not going to make one of them Ben Affleck statements and shit.”
