The Nigeria Immigration Service has warned its officers to desist from fraudulent activities during the re-screening of the 2000 recruits who were dispersed in 2015.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the service PRO, DCI E.S King the Comptroller-General of Immigrations, CGI, Mohammed Babandede said an officer whose name was not disclosed has been arrested for collecting large sum of money from some of the applicants.
He also revealed that the service has started the screening of the recruits.
He also announced that twenty-eight new CERPAC centres would be launched next month across the federation.
He added that the development would make it mandatory for all expatriates to appear in the CERPAC centres for biometric capturing before they would be issued with CERPAC cards.
The statement reads in part, “The CGI stated that the Service would soon launch “operation own your laptop” which will avail all officers and men the opportunity to own a laptop at a subsidized rate and lenient payment plan. He however cautioned all personnel never to sell it after collection for subsequent promotion interviews would be computer based.
“The CGI stated in clear terms that officers who have formed social media forum to discuss official matters and even degenerate to using it to abuse senior officers and even posting classified information to the social media should close up such fora.
“The practice is hereby abolished and henceforth any personnel caught contributing to such fora would be sanctioned,” the statement quotes Babandede as saying.
King continued, “While responding to some of the issues raised by officers, the CGI said that he would do everything within his powers to follow it up with the Board so that the result would be out before the next parade.
“The CGI said that work would start soonest for a befitting auditorium for the Service as some money was approved for it in the year’s budget.
“The CGI stated that the standard uniform ethic as being observed by the CGI and his S.As would be adopted for all officers and men, immediately uniform materials are made available.”
