#InCaseYouMissedIt: Lagos ranked 3rd worst liveable city in the world

by Adeniyi Abdul

Nigeria may have come back from the Olympics empty-handed, but Lagos State might just have made up for it with this latest achievement which sees the city clinching third place on the list of least liveable cities in the world.

The Economic Intelligence Unit has released results of its 2012 Global Liveability Survey which assessed 140 cities around the world to assess the best or worst based on their living conditions and Lagos ended up with the 138th position. This was a small drop from its 137th position in the 2011 ranking. The 139th position was taken by Port Moresby with Dhaka, Bangladesh being ranked the least liveable city in the world.

Australia’s Melbourne emerged number 1, scoring 97.5 while Vienna, Austria also made the top ten along with Helsinki, Finland and Auckland, New Zealand.

Rankings are done based on the natural environment, education, standard of infrastructure, among others.

We are outraged. This is a travesty. This is why we need our own media to tell our own stories. Yada yada yada.

  1. Lagos is doing well to improve its bad antecedents but if you think your problem is messaging, then I'm not surprised you have a backward country

  2. I agree with you Abdul. We need our own media to stand up to the task and tell our stories better. Only we can tell how far we have come in such a little time.
