#InCaseYouMissedIt: Panic in Ibadan as soldiers clash with policemen

There was confusion at Mokola area in Ibadan North local government area of Oyo State yesterday evening following sporadic shootings by the police at the Mokola Police Station.

The police were guarding against being caught unawares by soldiers who had earlier in the day, stormed the station over an alleged brutality of one of them on Wednesday night by the policemen attached to the police station.

Confusion began few minutes after some soldiers numbering about ten reportedly stormed the station and beat up the policemen on duty as retaliation for the alleged brutality of one of them (the soldier) the previous day by the officers carrying out ‘stop and search’ in front of the station.

It was gathered that the police on the ‘stop and search’ on Wednesday night stopped the soldier for routine check, but the soldier refused to obey orders and was consequently shot and injured on the ankle by the police.

The incident, according to an eyewitness, made his colleagues to storm the police station on yesterday during which they reportedly manhandled policemen.

After the soldiers left, there was reinforcement of policemen which resorted in the policemen shooting into the air, while they cordoned off all the roads leading to the station. The development created confusion around Mokola area as many people ran helter skelter for their lives.
