‘It’s a shame we still haven’t rescued Chibok girls’ – Wole Soyinka

Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, has once again commented on the continued captivity of the Chibok girls.

The Chibok girls were kidnapped from their hostels in their secondary school, in April 2014 by Boko Haram insurgents.

While the previous administration wasn’t able to secure their rescue, the present one hasn’t shown much promise in bringing the girls back home.

on Monday, at the commissioning of a mega school named after him in Osun state, Prof. Soyinka said it’s a shame on Nigeria that the girls were still in Boko Haram’s captivity.

“It is a shame that the nation cannot account for over 200 girls in Chibok. I sympathise with the religious policy of governments in school; children must not be brought up feeling that religion inhibits knowledge.

“In schools, we need not distinguish our children, the fatalistic religious holiness and the holier-than-thou attitude must be reduced among our pupils.”
