‘Timothy Szabolci,’ real name Andrew Szadolc, was caught impersonating a doctor and convicted of stealing thousands of dollars from the Texas clinic where he worked. His current wife, who hails from British Columbia, never knew.
The doctor was never in.
A Canadian realtor was in for a shock when she discovered that her husband was not the retired psychiatrist he claimed to be. In fact, he had a quite the criminal past in the U.S.
Sheri Brown, who is from British Columbia, fell in love with and married a man she thought was former Canadian Air Force pilot Timothy Szabolci. The two had a whirlwind romance and were married four months after their first date.
After a couple months of marriage, Canadian woman Sheri Brown found out that her husband — who told her he was Timothy Szabolci, a retired psychiatrist and Canadian Air Force pilot — lied to her about his identity. He’s really Andrew Szadolc, Brown says.
“He was a complete gentleman,” she told Dallas/Fort Worth television station CBS 11. “Always opened my car door for me. Made me dinner every night. Was just loving and caring.”
It wasn’t until the bills started to come in that she thought something wasn’t right. He said his accounts were frozen, so Brown stepped in to support him. She said it had cost her $50,000.
Sheri Brown said the man she knew — and married — as Timothy Szabolci was “a complete gentleman.”In reality, his name is Andrew Szadolc, the Canadian woman says, and he was convicted in Texas for impersonating a doctor and embezzlement.
While doing some research, she came across a story that CBS 11 aired in May 2007 about a man by the name of Andrew Szadolc — who looked strikingly like her husband.
It was him. Szabolic had been running a pain management clinic in Texas, and he was busted for impersonating a physician and practicing without a license. He was convicted of stealing some $30,000, and was sentenced to five years in jail in October 2009. However, after a year, he was paroled and deported to Canada.
“It was very difficult to see a video of your husband under a different name being arrested and sent to jail in Texas,” Brown told CBS.
Andrew Szadolc was deported to Canada after a year in prison. There, he changed his name to Timothy Szabolci, lied about his background and married Sheri Brown, his now-estranged wife says.
His new life up north involved starting a sales company called Platinum Pacific, which has now been shut down.
Brown has since filed for divorce and contacted the Royal Canadian police.
“I don’t know who this person is,” Brown said. “I don’t know him. I don’t know where he has been what he had done. It’s all a lie.”
Szabolic was supposed to pay back the money he stole, but the company said he hasn’t it them a cent, CBS reported. Also, his parole is up July 21, meaning he can return to the U.S. at that time.
