Jade Osiberu has had a great year, winning Best Director at the AMVCA for her Dakore Egbuson-led romantic drama Isoken, which thrust her into the spotlight that she deserves. Subsequently, she headlined Nollywood Film Festival, Glasgow along with Blessing Egbe and Tope Oshin in the festival’s drive to honour female directors in Nollywood. That said, she’s currently shooting Nigerian Trade, a new movie which we reported in September and enlists Denola Grey in his first movie role.
The plot details of Nigerian Trade has been kept close to the vest. The movie has a dedicated account on Instagram and a call for actors was issued out in July. Also, the movie is based on true events. But we know for sure that Blossom Chukwujekwu is a cast member, because Osiberu took to Instagram to praise him for his incredible character and professionalism. “There have been so many scenes where as soon as I yell cut, the crew bursts into spontaneous applause. What have you done with this character…? Mind blown. Not only is he giving the performance of his life but he’s been such a delight to work with.”
Osiberu also indicated that shooting Nigerian Trade has been mentally and physically challenging. Chukwujekwu made his debut in Private Storm (2009) and has since cemented himself as a fine actor in movies like Catch.er (2017) and Okafor’s Law (2016). We will bring you updates as Nigerian Trade develops.
