‘Jozi Kings’ set to premiere nationwide

The riveting new movie, Jozi Kings, directed by John Boyton and Nigeria’s Justice Umeh is set to premiere on Friday the 24th of September in cinemas nationwide. The film highlights the day-to-day struggles of the average South African by telling the story of how Chuks, a Nigerian immigrant, rises from petty crook to ‘King of Jozi’, the man at the top of a cartel of drug smugglers.

Jozi Kings was produced by Black Irish Productions and was shot in South Africa. Director, Umeh, spoke to African Screens about the movie: “I wanted to write about the everyday life on the street that people face, mostly foreigners but as well as indigenes. And it took me about three months to write the script,” he said, adding that “the film deals mainly on the issue of drug smuggling, but touches on other issues, like rape and fraud”.

The movie will be premiered in Silverbird and Genesis Deluxe Cinemas in Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt. The lead actor, Anele Beke, and other members of the cast and crew will be present at the Lagos premieres, which is supported by Questionmark Entertainment.

The makers believe that Josi Kings is “bound to change the look of Nollywood and raise the bar”. Can’t wait to see it? See the trailer here
