Judge declares mistrial in Bill Cosby’s sexual assault case

The judge in the sexual assault case against comedian, Bill Cosby on Saturday declared a mistrial.

The judgement came after the jury remained deadlocked on whether the fallen star was guilty of drugging and molesting a woman in 2004.

Cosby has been accused of of assaulting Andrea Constand at his Philadelphia mansion, an allegation that could have seen the 79-year-old spend the rest of his life in prison.

Prosecutors announced immediately that they would retry the case.

Cosby has however been granted bail.

Over 60 women had accused the actor of drugging and assaulting them, but Constand’s allegations were the only criminal case brought against him as most of the alleged abuse happened too long ago to prosecute.

The 12-man panel had been unable to determine if the actor was guilty or not, after 52 hours of deliberations.

They first informed Judge Steven O’Neill on Thursday that they were deadlocked, but were instructed to keep trying.
