A month after, Kogi governor heeds Appeal Court ruling on LG Chairmen

Kogi state governor, Capt Idris Wada has reinstated the state Council Chairmen that were sacked by the order of a High Court in Kotonkarfe last year.

The governor’s decision is in accordance to the ruling of the Court of Appeal ruling which ordered their immediate reinstatement.

The Conference of Nigerian Political Parties had dragged the State Government to court over what they termed “illegal and improper constitution of the State Independent Electoral Commission”.

The High Court subsequently declared the constitution of SIEC and its actions, “ultra vires” which meant the sack of the Council Chairmen and Councillors had to be effected.

The Kogi State Government in reaction had filed an appeal before the Appeal Court in Abuja and has been vindicated as the Appeal court faulted the ruling of the High Court and ordered immediate reinstatement of the sacked Chairmen.

On Tuesday, November 24 Governor Wada ordered the immediate return of the council chairmen and councilors.

Speaking to the press, Hon Folorunsho Daniyan, one of the reinstated chairmen praised the governor for his staunch belief in the rule of law.

The fate of the some of the Chairmen who defected to the opposition party, APC is yet to be ascertained as the directive for the reinstatement did not address the defectors.

Speaking to Vanguard, one of the Local Government Chairmen, Hon. Folorunsho Daniyan hailed the governor for his belief in the rule of law.
