Tributes and mourning might be going on for student and hip-hop artist, Damilola Olaniyan popularly known as Damino Damoche but students who fear the deceased might have been a cult member believed his gang plan to stage a revenge attack at the Lagos State University, Ojo.

The two gunmen who murdered Damoche are still at large with the police yet to make an arrest and it is believed that students are living in fear that more trouble might be coming.

Reporters who visited the school on Friday said it was unusually empty.

One student who pleaded anonymity allegedly said:  “A lot of people here are saying he was a member of the Buccaneer Confraternity. Two rival cults – Eiye and Black Axe – had a confrontation some time ago.

“They later reached a truce and tackled the Black Axe together. They allegedly killed a Black Axe member some time ago. So, Damoche’s murder may have been in retaliation for that killing.

“He was shot around 4pm. By 6pm, people were advised to steer clear of LASU-Iba Road,” he said.

“The campus is calm now because of school marshals but people did not go for lectures because of what happened. Students are scared that there may be revenge attacks,” he added.

Another unidentified student said Damoche who was in his final year was waiting for a bus at the bus stop near the rear gate on LASU-Iba Road after a football match when he was shot by some boys on a motorcycle.

“The school marshals took him to the school’s clinic, but by then he was dead. I saw them carrying him. His body was lifeless.”

“The school is calm now but I am sure something is still going to happen. We are all being careful at this moment,” she said.

Friends who knew the deceased continue to post tributes on his Facebook page:

Adewunmi Adson said: “What could you have done to the cultists that all they could think of was repay you with this painful death? But you didn’t deserve this, brother. RIP.”

Yetunde Olasupo, wrote, “Dammy’, so I won’t see you again? Remember what you promised Alhaja. What do you want me to tell her?

“You did not tell me on Thursday that you won’t come home again. Now you are gone.”

The Punch reports:

When contacted on Friday, LASU’s spokesperson, Dr. Sola Fosudo, described the incident as “a civil case.”

Fosudo said, “What do you mean by how we are reacting to the incident? Where did you hear that he was shot by cultists? Don’t ever work on rumours in your life.

“I said it is a civil case. He was shot outside the school premises. The police will handle the matter.

“How do you expect us to tighten security? Does the school have a police post? The police will handle the matter.”

Spokesperson for the state police command, Ngozi Braide, told our correspondent that Damoche’s remains had been deposited at the Badagry General Hospital morgue.

“The police have already started investigating the case. No arrests have been made,” she said.

A native of Ogun State, he began his musical career with a defunct group known as the Middle Guys before going solo.

Before his death, he had recorded two songs ‘Obo to she’ and ‘Fall in the song’, which did well in the market.

He was said to be planning some collaborations with a number of popular artistes before he was murdered.
