LG chairman, in Ebonyi, suspended for demolishing Christ Embassy church

The caretaker committee chairman of Ikwo Local Government Area in Ebonyi State, Joseph Orogwu, has been suspended by the state governor, David Umahi.

Orogwu was suspended because of his alleged involvement in the demolition of a Believers Love World INC aka Christ Embassy Church in front of the newly established Federal University, Ndufu Alike Ikwo (FUNAI).

The state Commissioner for Information, Emmanuel Onwe, who disclosed this on Friday, stated that the suspension was immediate and indefinite, and that Orogwu has been directed to handover immediately.

According media reports, the state governor is a member of the Church and a major sponsor of the church.

The suspended chairman, however, denied having anything to do with the demolition of the church, saying that he had received information that some people were demolishing the church.

“I quickly dashed to the scene and when I got there I met some men carrying out the demolition,” Orogwu said.

“When I accosted them, they said they were staff of Abakaliki Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA) and were doing their duty.”

The suspension of Orogwu is the fourth in the state since the governor took over government nine months ago.
