Man broadcasts killing of stranger on Facebook Live (WATCH)

The Cleveland police are currently searching for Steve Stephens, 37, who broadcasted a Facebook video of himself shooting a stranger on Easter Sunday.

Stephens is accused of fatally shooting 74-year-old Robert Godwin Sr. about 2 p.m. on East 93 rd Street, just south of Interstate 90 in Cleveland’s Glenville neighborhood. Stephens broadcast the shooting on Facebook, police said.

Stephens approached Godwin as the elder man walked along the sidewalk and asked him to repeat the name of Stephens’ girlfriend before shooting Godwin, the video shows.

The girlfriend is fully cooperating with investigators and has been taken into protective custody, a senior law enforcement source said.

He broadcast another video of himself about 3 p.m. claiming to have killed other people, but an hours-long search of vacant homes in the Glenville neighborhood had turned up no evidence to substantiate that claim, police said.

Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson and police Chief Calvin Williams held a news conference urging Stephens to turn himself in.

State and federal partners are actively working with Cleveland police officers to search for Stephens, who is described as standing 6-feet 1-inch tall and weighing about 240 pounds with a full beard. He was wearing a dark-striped polo shirt at the time of the shooting and the Facebook Live broadcasts.

Police released a photo of the vehicle they believe Stephens is driving, a white late-model Ford Fusion with temporary license plate E363630, though Williams said it’s possible that Stephens may have switched the plates.

Investigators have also said Stephens has turned off his cellphone making it harder to track him.
