Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) petrol may sell for N150 per litre in August as marketers are pushing for an upward review. This is coming after the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA ) announced an increase of the product to a band of N140.80 to N143.80 per litre in July.  Prior to the July 1 hike, the agency had approved price band of N121.50 to N123.50 per litre for the product  on May 1.

However a source who spoke to The Nation said marketers are seeking a further increase in the price of PMS due to the soaring price of crude oil in the international market. It was further learnt that Brent Crude which sold for $43.24 per barrel in July, is currently selling for $44.03 per barrel.

Kwara Deputy Gov and wife test positive for coronavirus

The deputy governor of Kwara state, Kayode Alabi, and his wife Abieyuwa, have tested positive for COVID-19. A statement from the spokesperson of the state Technical Committee on COVID-19, Rafiu Ajakaye, said the test results for the deputy governor and his wife came back positive on Monday, August 3.

The NSA revealed that Buhari told the service chiefs that Nigerians have lost confidence in the security sector and he is determined to restore that confidence.

FG raises hate speech from N500, 000 t0 N5 million 

A review of the sixth Broadcasting Code of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) which raised the fine for hate speech from N500,000 to N5 million, has been launched by the federal government.

Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, who unveiled the document at an event in Lagos on Tuesday August 4, said the code was reviewed in line with the directive of the President for an inquiry into the regulatory role of the NBC in the wake of the 2019 general elections.
