Man held in prison for stealing tubers of yam

A middle aged man, Samodi Olorodo has been remanded in prison by an Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court sitting in Isabo, Ogun State, for allegedly stealing 18 tubers of yam and a bunch of vegetables from a shop in the community.

Pulse reports that Olorodo, 30, committed the offense on August 1, 2016, at about 10 am in the Oke-Odo Area of Osiele, Abeokuta.

Police prosecutor Olakunle Shonibare told the court that the owner of the shop Adeneye Safiu, caught the accused with the 18 tubers valued at N10,000 and a bunch of vegetables worth N50.

According to the prosecutor, under interrogation, the accused could not give any reasonable answer as to how he came in possession of the items, which led to his arrest.

He added that the offence contravened Sections 516, 383 and 390 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.

Olorodo pleaded not guilty to the offence and the Magistrate, Idowu Olayinka, ordered that he be remanded at the Federal Prisons, Ibara, to enable the police to carry out more investigation.

The case has been adjourned to October 5, 2016, for further hearing.
