Mugabe has been placed under house arrest – Zuma

South African President, Jacob Zuma has said his Zimbabwean counterpart, Robert Mugabe has been placed under house arrest.

Background:

The military had taken over the country and arrested Robert Mugabe and his wife.

Major General S.B Moyo had led an action on Wednesday said to be targeted at “criminals” around Mugabe.

What Zuma said:

A statement by the South African Government said, “President Zuma spoke to President Robert Mugabe earlier today who indicated that he was confined to his home but said that he was fine.”

“Zuma, in his capacity as Chair of the Southern African Development Community, is sending Special Envoys to Zimbabwe.”

“South Africa will send its intelligence and defence ministers,” the statement said.
