You can say all you want about singer Dencia but one thing you can’t take away from her is her penchant to say it as it is. In an interview today, she spoke about her life, career, fashion and more.

She spoke about her disputed ancestry saying she grew up with her maternal grandparents in Cameroon but her paternal roots remain in Nigeria. According to her, she keenly studies ‘Campusology’ for a few months before jetting out to the United Sates. For those wondering what her campusology classes entail, search no further, according to her, it means ‘students’ who hang around campus without being legitimate students of the institution.

Dencia explained her preference for Nigeria as a base for promoting her music saying, “The youths of Cameroon in my days literally listen to mostly Nigerian produced music which happens in a lot of African countries. I looked up to top artists like Psquare, 2Face and so on and I was like I have to start from here. After all I’m a child from this soil too.”

The ‘Beri-Beri’ artiste naturally didn’t hold back when the topic drifted to her fashion and style, she said, “My style is loud, bold, creative and unique because I recreate everything I wear… sometimes I have stylist friends who raid my closet for celebrities. Sometime last year I lost my favourite shorts to Keyshia Cole. She had a show and they needed stuff. It was a Sunday and oh the money was good!”

The physical fight between her and Lagos boutique owner, Liz Garvy, continues to trail her. The singer and fashion designer however said she has put that behind her so she can maintain focus on what is important.

The whole media ‘wahala’ came from a bitter ex friend who went around trying to lie and defame my character after everything I did for her. God will pay her 7D. Then came other little things here and there that I didn’t address or talk about because I am the type of person who stays focused,” she said.

Dencia bragged about being verified on Twitter saying she knew that would happen from the first day she signed on the social media platform. She urged her fans to follow her pet-dog, Diva, on twitter who she said does what she called ‘Puppy Tweets’.

According to her: “You attach to the Dogs collar and when she barks, it tweets her thoughts so Diva tweets cool stuff. Follow her @divathepinkdog.”

On her career as a well connected video-vixen in the US, Dencia said she’d been in song videos by 50 cents and Jeremih ‘Down On Me’, ‘Chris Brown Yeah 3x’, Quincy Jones’ ‘Soul Bossa Nostra‘ featuring Ludacris, Baby Bash’s ‘Fantasy Girl’, Hollywood Undead, Pharrell Williams and more.

As an interview parting shot, Dencia let’s us into her romantic life saying she’s been single for so long she wonders if she can still kiss.

“I am cool, down to earth and super funny. I am a talkative too. I sit and crack jokes all day with anyone,” she says.

You’ve got to love a girl who knows what she wants.
