Need a fake but believable significant other? There’s an App for that

by Muyiwa Matuluko

There’s an app for virtually everything on earth, it seems. So it comes as no huge surprise that someone has built an app that will help you create the illusion of a real life partner.

Published as 2 distinct services – Invisible Boyfriend and Invisible Girlfriend – this app will text you, call you and even send you handwritten notes. All for a reasonable monthly access charge of $24.99 (~N5000), which entitles you to 100 texts, 10 voicemails and 1 handwritten postcard from your virtual SO.

The app lets you fabricate all the necessary details including the name, age, photo and personality of your fake boyfriend/girlfriend. You can even create a believable story of how you met or, if you are feeling a little lazy, let the app auto-generate the story.

The creators of the app say it’s not just for people who want to trick family and friends into believing they have a real partner. It also serves as a realistic practice ground for rusty relationship finders. It’s also useful for those looking to manipulate their real life partners for whatever selfish reasons. In fact, the use cases are near endless, limited only by the users imagination.

Invisible Boyfriend and Invisible Girlfriend are in beta and currently available only in the US and Canada. However the creators say they are looking to expand beyond beta to more countries in due time.
