Nigeria loses defender Adefemi Olubayo in a car crash

25 year old Nigeria international, Olubayo Adefemi, was killed in a car accident on Monday, 18th April. Adefemi played for Skoda Xanthi in the Greek Super League and had won three international caps for his country. He was driving from Xanthi to Salonika on the Egnatia motorway, travelling to the airport to catch a flight to Nigeria, when he lost control of his car. He was due to finalise plans for his wedding.

A statement from the Greek football federation read: “The Super League and the entire Greek football family would like to express its deepest condolences and sympathy for the family of Olubayo Adefemi, who died tragically in a car accident.” Condolences for Adefemi’s family and loved ones have poured in from other Greek football teams including Aris, Panionios and Ergotelis. The deceased won a silver medal as part of the Nigerian side that took part in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
