A video has surfaced online of Nigerian Soldiers causing chaos in Freedom Park, Lagos Island because they were denied ‘free entrance’ as they approached the leisure park to probably see a movie.
The story and the video was shared by a Facebook user, Theo Lawson, who wrote:
This evening about 7 pm, Freedom Park had its baptism in Army re-Arrangement!
Its Movie night Monday at the park and our regular guests are engaged watching a documentary on the rising problem of drug abuse among the youth in America; a problem gradually infecting us here in Naija…
A group of 4 young men in mufti come to Gate 2, the leader presenting himself as an army personnel; our gateman, a ‘Man ‘o War’ cadet, in the spirit of esprit de corps, asks that he come in free but pay the paltry N200 for his 3 friends. They proceed to barge their way in and the attempt to restrain their entry led to the brutal assault on one gateman. Luckily other guests at the gate intervened to stop the pummeling -they left angrily with a promise to reinforce and return…
About 45 minutes later, I am at the food court watching a new film ‘Freedom Way’, a musical video celebrating the artistry at Freedom Park; when pandemonium leads from the same gate and right into to heart of the food court where customers are eating and watching the movie! The same guys, now in uniform and with a couple more friends had chased our gatemen with belts and daggers right into the serene space.. they lashed at everyone and chased the gatemen flogging them right into poor Ms Aboaba’s office…
When the initial shock subsided, other staff and guests rose to shield the staff being assaulted, cameras came out, people shouted, stood between them…
Then they took off…
Will they be back? God knows; but when We train twenty-something-year-olds to hate and oppress ‘Bloody Civilians’, we perpetuate the Zombie syndrome with stolen authority to ‘kill and go’.
