The internet has been buzzing since artiste Naira Marley, on his Instagram Live, defended internet fraud aka yahoo yahoo by saying it’s the reason why there’s circulation of money in the country. His take is that the average Nigerian won’t have access to money and that it would be only in the hands of the wealthy. Let’s, for a moment, assume the government stopping the circulation of money is true, the damage that internet fraudsters have done to our national image is on a large scale.
Marley’s comments have drawn backlash from celebrities like Simi and Ruggedman, and it further shows how internet fraud and other vices have been normalised, even pop culture. On Twitter, Nigerians are still reacting, with some even taking the side of Marley. I’m particularly stunned that Marley thinks that yahoo-yahoo is reparations for slavery. God help us.
yahoo is bad no doubt bt it has contributed to the success of this country, with the way our leaders are operating, if there was no yahoo we will be doom by now..As for you guy’s going out of the country blaming yahoo guys for spoiling your shows, why not stay and fix the country

Travel outside Nigeria and see even other black people calling you a scammer. Imagine wanting to buy something and the cashier is looking at you so judgementally. You think Yahoo is a hustle?

A vast majority of Nigerians are fraudulent.
From cutting corners, swindling people, inflating prices etc.
All kinds of fraudulent behavior has been normalized & stereotyped as being “sharp”, so people defending Yahoo Boys shouldn’t shock you.— Idomagirl (@idomagirl) April 24, 2019
The musicians that are kekeing in the comments of these foolish posts about Yahoo boys will still come back here to tell us what they stand for when it’s convenient. lmao. Hate to see it
