Not 7, but 3 days of mourning declared for Audu Abubakar

Following the tragic death of former governor of Kogi, the current governor, Capt Idris Wada has declared 3 days of mourning in the state.

As opposed to the 7 days that was widely reported, it was discovered on Monday morning that Wada, only declared 3 days of mourning for the candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the Kogi governorship election of Saturday, November 21.

The governor initially declared a 3-day public holiday in honour of Audu, but the state government would subsequently announce a 7-day mourning period.

Prince Audu was confirmed dead on Sunday, November 22 shortly after the declaration of the Saturday election as inconclusive.

In a statement released by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Adegbemiro Jegede on Monday, November 23, Governor Wada extolled the qualities of the late Audu.

He described him as a great Nigerian and a great Kogite who contributed greatly in a positive way to the socio-economic and political development of Kogi state.

He sympathized with the family of the deceased as well as the entire citizens of Kogi, stating that Audu was a leader who strived to give his endeavours the best.

If the election hadn’t been inconclusive, Prince Audu would have set a record of a third electoral victory in the gubernatorial polls with 240,867 votes.

Right on his tail was Governor Wada who had 199,514 votes.
