NUC suspends seven universities – Is your alma mater one of them?

by Isi Esene

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has suspended the operational licenses of seven private universities for violating its guidelines in physical facilities and academic programmes.

The universities affected are Achievers, Caritas, Joseph Ayo Babalola, Lead City, Madonna, Obong and Tansian. One would actually be forgiven for not knowing about some of these institutions before now.

Ibrahim Yakassai, the Commission’s Director of Press and Public Relations confirmed the suspension.

He said the suspension was a temporary penalty for violating standing rules which had been communicated to the affected universities several times before.

He however did not explain what would happen to the students of the institutions during the duration of the suspension.
