Despite confident declarations from Governor of Rivers state, Nyesom Wike that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national convention would hold, new reports filtering out suggest that the convention might be canceled.
The convention was billed to hold today(Saturday) in Port-Harcourt, Rivers state.
According to online media outlet, Naij, a source within the PDP told their correspondent that the convention will be called off and a caretaker committee appointed to settle the differences between the rank and file of the party that has so torn them apart.
The source allegedly said, “The governors have agreed to have a caretaker committee. I can tell you sheriff is gone. The governors sacrificed him. The caretaker committee will unite the party.”
In the build up to this particular convention, several conflicts have arisen among the members of the party with the most prominent being Ali Modu Sheriff’s insistence on running for the office of National Chairman.
The founding fathers as well as former minister of the PDP led by Professor Jerry Gana have threatened to hold a parallel convention in Abuja in defiance to the obstinate leadership of the Sheriff.
