She may just be a little over five feet, but the immensely gifted Chidinma Ekile ended the Project Fame West Africa Season 3 head and shoulders above the rest. It took several weeks of grooming, performances, criticisms from judges and evictions. But in the end, she was announced the winner of the regional reality show and an instant celebrity.
The last six contestants – Kesse, Ochuko, Eyo, Tolu, Yetunde and Chidinma took to the stage one final time and wowed again. And after all the performances, they all come forward for the moment of truth. Joseph Benjamin, looking dapper alongside his co-host Adora Oleh delayed the announcement. This also heightened the tension not only in the contestants but the faculty members, judges and members of the audience. And when they decided to liberate us from the suspense, Chidinma Ekile who drastically improved in the cause of the show was pronounced the 2010 Project Fame star as she was presented the cheque of N2.5m and keys to a brand new Toyota RAV4. She’s also entitled to a recording contract. She is the first female to win the competition and the third Nigerian after Iyanya Mbuk and Mike Anyasodo won the previous two.
The impressive Ghanaian singer Kesse Frimpong was named 1st runner up winning- N1.5m and a Toyota Corolla while Eyo Eminue made the 2nd runner up position and went home with N1m and a Toyota Yaris. Fan-favourite Yetunde (a.k.a. Omo Ibadan) was named third runner-up. The other two contestants, Tolu Adeshina and Ochuko Ogbu-Sifo didn’t completely lose out of the competition as the top six contestants are expected to release a group song, produced by one of Nigeria’s leading producers; a well as a video. In the words of Ultima boss Femi Ayeni, “The Academy is committed to pushing and supporting all six finalists.”
But there is definitely no doubt who’ll be the centre of all attention. Hopefully she would create a much bigger impact in the Nigerian music circles.
