Members of a civil rights group, the Campaign for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR), on Wednesday, prevented the convoy of Osun state Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, from going to his office.
According to Punch Newspapers, the group was protesting against corruption in the Osun state public service and had blocked one of the lanes along the Gbongan-Ibadan Expressway.
Armed with anti-corruption leaflets, placards and banners, the protesters refused the governor’s convoy to gain access until they were dispersed by police officers in the convoy.
The protesters reportedly stated that the monies being looted from the treasury was capable of providing first-class infrastructure in all the states in Nigeria.
Speaking to the protesters when they later to drop a letter at the governor’s office, Aregbesola was said to have praised their efforts in fighting human right abuses.
“As we are condemning corruption, so must we speak against low productivity, corruption is a scourge that must be stopped and low productivity is a curse that must be rejected.”
While urging them to continue supporting the anti-corruption fight of President Muhammadu Buhari, the Governor stated that Nigerians will benefit from the efforts put towards fighting corruption, the report says.
