Opinion: Why is Father Mbaka dragging the church through the mud?

by Simon Utsu

Father MbakaI thought a hierarchy exists in the Catholic church? Why do the Bishops and Cardinals keep allowing Rev Father Mbaka to drag the name of the church through the mud?

Rev. Father Mbaka has been alleging over the past two weeks that the President and his wife are after his life. I think Mbaka is debilitating the Nigerian catholic institution with his frequent political outbursts on the altar with the sutan and cassock on.

Mbaka has in the past decade turned his adoration ground to a courtroom of sorts, passing judgement on politician he loathes and acquitting those who go behind to beg him of crimes they committed.

Mbaka was strongly against Rochas’s predecessor and used his adoration ground to bring him down by constantly accusing him of beating up a catholic priest.

Damage done and years later, Mbaka brought Ohakim to his altar October last year and spent close to thirty minutes explaining to his congregation he had ‘done his homework’ and found out Ohakim was wrongfully accused of beating up the priest in 2010.

This time, Ohakim was contesting the PDP primaries and had obviously gone behind to beg Mbaka to openly show him some leniency.

Mbaka committed the biggest of blunders when he claimed the Holy Spirit was responsible for his volte face in December last year.

You praise Jonathan today and next week you call him a devil. One of the most important things I’ve learnt as a Christian is never to joke with the Holy Spirit. I learnt this when I was seven years or thereabout and have always tried my best to adhere in the strictest of ways possible to this commandment.

I’m of the opinion that the Bishops council should close down the adoration ground and sanction Mbaka for sometime.

Three years ago, the catholic church pulled out the Christian Association of Nigeria when they felt the Ayo Oritsejafor led body was dabbling into politics in the unhealthiest of ways. Father Mbaka’s recent antics are defeating the very reason why his Umbrella body pulled out of CAN.

In conclusion, I remember when Prophet Elijah in the bible felt he was the only one on earth who could do his job as a prophet so well, he had an ‘argument’ with God during which God told that they were thousands of other prophets on the reserve bench whom he could equally use.

Me thinks God in his usual way may be preparing a catholic priest with greater abilities than Mbaka to take over from him, reason why he has been going over the board and disrespecting the directives of the Bishops for over a decade.
