Ring the ankle: Givenchy Spring 2012 review

Givenchy Spring 2012 Ready-to-Wear

The super-tight pants shown at Givenchy could have been mistaken for tights, save for the flare just above the ankle. Riccardo Tisci said he was inspired by surfers and mermaids for spring. As regards to the surfer theme, the pants were fitting, giving that they looked like wet suits. What Tisci showed was somewhat refreshing: a print-free collection(he tackled prints last season). For this season, he decided to zero in on suit tailoring. Could a suit be soft, yet strong? Casual, yet, dressy? Sexy, yet, non-vulgar? In Tisci’s hands, yes would be the answer to all three questions. For one thing, the pale but feminine colors helped. For another, the fabrics he used weren’t traditional suit fabrics, cut so intricately so that its peplum and lapel were melded into a metaphorical fin hybrid, trimmed in sequins, shark or eel skin. So says the genius of Riccardo Tisci. Perfect.
