Veteran Paralympic athlete, Eucharia Iyiazi on Thursday increased Team Nigeria’s medal tally to 12 at the ongoing 2016 Rio Paralympics after clinching bronze in the women’s F56/57 discus.
The 4-time medalist threw a distance of 27.54m in her sixth attempt to win the medal.
Her first three attempt placed her at 7th position, with a season’s best of 22.07m.
Iyazi improved in the last three attempts, recording a distance of 27.54m.
Iyiazi won silver at the Athens 2004 Paralympic Games. She also won two gold medals in the F57/58 discus and shot put events at the Beijing 2008 Paralympics. She won a bronze medal at the London 2012 Games.
Team Nigeria are now 10th on the medal table- surpassing previous performances at the Athens 2004, Beijing 2008 and London 2012 Paralympic games.
