Second coming! Murtala Nyako says he’ll be back as Adamawa governor

by Kolapo Olapoju

Former Adamawa Governor, Admiral Murtala Nyako (rtd) says he’s confident of returning to his post because the lawmakers did not follow due process before his sacking.

Nyako has filed an appeal at the Appeal Court against his impeachment, saying that he has valid reasons to prove that he was unfairly evicted from his office by his opponents, who breached all the rules all in their desperate bid to get him out.

Nyako released a statement on Sunday, 24 August, through by his media adviser, Mr. Sajoh Ahmed, expressing his belief in returning to office since the process leading to his forceful and undemocratic sack was illegal.

He said he believes in the Nigerian judiciary, which has within its ranks men of integrity and honour. He says he’s sure they would not find it difficult to restore him to his position given the obvious evidence that his opponents violated all the provisions of the law in impeaching him out for political reasons.

He stated that his case will follow the precedence set by that of former governors who were removed only to return, citing governors Joshua Dariye of Plateau, Rashidi Ladoja of Oyo and Peter Obi of Anambra, as examples.

Nyako also promised to remain with the APC and support all the party’s candidates in all the elections, while also refuting claims that he was supporting a PDP governorship aspirant for the forthcoming by-election.

He said: “Anyone who supports a PDP candidate in the state has done so in exercise of his or her democratic rights as citizens but not as a result of a directive from Admiral Nyako or in support of his political position. This clarification is necessary in order to debunk the rumour being peddled by some mischief makers in Adamawa State.”
