‘Senate fine-tuning Gender Equality Bill so it won’t clash with religion’

The Chairman Senate Committee on Tertiary Education and Tetfund, Senator Binta Masi, on Monday, disclosed that the National Assembly is committed to passing the Gender Equality Bill in due time.

Binta stated this at a workshop organised in Abuja by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation(UNESCO); National Universities Commission (NUC) and Are Babalola University, on the setting of a minimum Academic Standards for the Studies of Gender and Transformative Leadership programme in Nigeria.

She noted that the senate was working on the bill so as to avoid certain parts of it being in contention with the two major religions in the country.

“The Nigerian Senate did not throw away the gender equality bill. There are areas that needed to be fine tuned to prevent it from being in abeyance with the two religions we have in the country.”
