Gov. Shettima explains why he stayed away from APC convention 

Gov. Kashim Shettima of Borno on Saturday said he stayed away from  the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Convention in Abuja  as a mark of respect for the abducted Chibok schoolgirls.

Isa Gusau the Special Adviser to Shettima on Communication, said this in a statement he issued in Maiduguri.

“Shettima stayed away from the Eagle Square, venue of APC national convention as a mark of respect for victims of series of Boko Haram attacks in Borno that include families of those killed across the state.” Read more….

Jonathan to attend summit on infrastructure development in Dakar

President Goodluck Jonathan will depart Abuja on Saturday evening for Dakar, the Senegalese capital, to attend the African Union (AU) Summit on Financing Infrastructure Development billed for June 14 and 15.

A statement issued by Reuben Abati, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, stated that Jonathan would lead Nigeria’s delegation to the summit.

“The president will join other participating Heads of State and Government, representatives of the United Nations, the African Union, global financial institutions and leading investors in deliberations at the summit. Read more….

Sudan refuse extradition of Nyanya bomb blast suspect

The extradition of the mastermind of the April 14, 2014, bombings of Nyanya-Abuja Motor Park that claimed the lives of about 100 people, Aminu-Sadiq Ogwuche might take longer than expected.

For now, it has hit the rock.

This is because the Sudanese government was said to have refused to cooperate with the Nigerian officials in their effort to extradite the suspect. Read more….

Violence erupts at APC convention

Violence erupted yesterday at the secretariat of the Convention Committee of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Abuja.

Two APC members were beaten up by some delegates of the party from Abia and Ebonyi states while policemen looked on. One of them who was labeled as “Ngige boy” was stripped naked near the secretariat along Emeka Anyaoku Street, Area 11 Abuja. Read more….

Jonathan’s delegation to World Cup in Brazil dwarfs Obama’s, others in Africa 

Nigeria, again, will spend a fortune on officials traveling abroad with President Goodluck Jonathan’s typically oversize presidential delegation to the World Cup in Brazil announced this week.

If the mega-size team had any chance escaping public attention, a similar presidential delegation announced by United States President Barack Obama, sealed it.

Mr. Jonathan’s team comprises governors, ministers, federal lawmakers and diplomats- totalling more than a dozen; while Mr. Obama’s has an advisor, a diplomat and two former athletes only. Read more….
